Dogs And Cats Need Healthy Teeth And Gums Too

Your pet’s dental care is important; it is an integral part of your pet’s health. According to a noted veterinary hospital, just as you brush your teeth every day and have them professionally cleaned by your dentist, your animals need the same or similar treatment. A common indication of dental disease in your pet is of course, bad breath. With dogs and cats, naturally, some breath odor is unavoidable at times. However, when the breath odor is really bad, this may be due to the metabolism of some of the bacteria present in the mouth when excessive plaque is present.

Veterinary professionals state that plaque forms when there is a buildup of bacteria and other components of saliva along the teeth and/or gums. It mainly consists of bacteria and is soft at first. When plaque is soft, it can be removed easily at times by frequent brushing. After plaque hardens it is known as calculus—more commonly called tartar. Calculus can build up on your pet’s teeth. This calculus is usually below the gum line and can lead to periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a major initiator of infections in the gums, which can also lead to infections throughout the body. Oftentimes the teeth become very painful and loose. Some animal may begin to lose their teeth.

Do not allow the tartar to build up on your pet’s teeth. Built up calculus can cause severe dental disease. One of the first signs of dental disease is gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums. The gums will be sore and reddened, and the animal’s breath will have a bad odor. There may be some drooling due to the soreness. If you brush the teeth, the gums will probably bleed.

This is where preventative maintenance comes in: The best kind of preventative care for your pet’s teeth is simply regular brushing. Occasionally, dental prophylaxis at your veterinarian’s office may also be required. A dental prophylaxis (often called dental prophy) is an in-depth teeth cleaning and oral exam performed by veterinarians. In this instance, the animal will be placed under general anesthesia so that the dental prophy can be performed.

Brushing your pet’s teeth need not be difficult. Once your pet is used to it, it should not take long to do. Brush your cat or dog’s teeth using a soft bristled toothbrush along with pet toothpaste. The toothpaste that we use as humans should not be used with our pets as it may irritate their stomachs if swallowed—which is a possibility. Get your pet used to the brushing when your pet is young; this will make is less difficult in the long run. Vets state that most pets will tolerate brushing no matter what their age. Brush your pet’s teeth gently on a regular basis. This will go a long way to reducing plaque buildup.

Dogs, as we all know, love chew toys or other toys specifically designed to help clean teeth. This can be a great help for you and your dogs. For pets, dogs and cats, dry food is the best choice for keeping teeth clean, according to vet professionals.

All pet owners should check with their vets for further information on their pets’ general health; other important helpful points, in addition to those stated above, can be obtained from vet professionals who are used to seeing various kinds of pets and therefore, can provide assistance to pet owners.

Litter Training Kittens And Cats In Your House- Tips On Training The Kitten

Nearly everybody like animals and it’s always the particular choices of the particular individual which type of family pet will be ideal for his / her house. This can be a fish that is in an aquarium which needs to be fed and also the tank cleansed at the least each week, a dog which is required to be fed, walked and also bathed and even something as fuzzy and cute as a kitty.

Pet cats really are among the cleanest critters around due to the fact that by nature, they have the ability to cleanse their selves without any assistance. With this remaining true however, it does not prevent these kinds of house animals from soiling your apartment or house hence the kitten should be trained by way of the application of some sort of cat litter box.

Choosing your litter box for cats will seriously be determined by the size of the cat that’s inside one’s home. Typically the box should be big enough to allow the feline to move around in and readily available for it to proceed inside.

This method will begin simply by making observations of the kitty in the house. If the cat starts to move in any unusual manner, then it is time to pick it up and hurry it to the cat litter box. Some people have already obtained the actual practical experience of not making it soon enough which will undoubtedly imply cleaning up the trail of what exactly the furry friend let trail behind.

One more ill-fated occasion is going to be coming home and locating waste. An effective way to coach the cat at these times is usually collecting the waste and putting it in the box. Next you need to get the kitty and let it stay there for a while which could help your pet recognize the direction to go the next time when there exists an urge.

The interior of the automatic litter box should have some kind of filler that should make the area comfortable for your cat. An individual may utilize a few out of date newspapers or old cloths. If this isn’t going to work, in that case it’s possible to ask the advice among neighbors who may have a lot of knowledge about pet cats at home.

In the event the house is quite large, you should supply more than just one large cat litter box in order to make it easily available for your kitten. As the fecal matter belonging to the cat smells just like that of different creatures, you should do away with it without delay and swap the litter to ensure that the aroma does not penetrate your entire household.

Pet cats, the same as all other pets, will need a certain amount of maintenance. Training the kitty to utilize a litter box for cats may well require more than a day however in the long run, it’s going to keep your household clean of waste materials laying all over.

If you are bringing home a new cat then you are for sure going to need a litter box for your cat. The only way that you can truly stay on top of the stench that their waste causes is to get an automatic litter box. Without it, you will be hard pressed to stay on top of the poopie detail. Battling Cystitis in Cats – How to Stop it Before it Starts

Unfortunately, cystitis in cats is a fast growing problem for cat owners in the United States. It is not unusual for cats to have repeated bouts with urinary tract problems and infections. It can be very frustrating to deal with recurring incidents of cat urinary infections. But you can take action and stop this problem in its tracks. A number of factors contribute to cat urinary problems including diet, stress, and environment. When you finish reading this article, you’ll be armed with the tools and knowledge to prevent the root causes of cat urinary infection.

Cat urinary tract problems are also referred to as Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) and Feline Urinary Syndrome (FUS). In layman’s terms, this means an infection of the cat’s bladder or urethra. The most lethal example of this is when stones form in the bladder, block the urethra, and prevent your kitty from urinating. You need to learn to quickly recognize a cat urinary tract infection in order to prevent your cat’s condition from worsening quickly into a life-threatening emergency.

Quick tips for spotting a cystitis in cats:

Is your cat urinating in all the wrong places?
Do you notice urine on the tile or in the bathtub?
Does your kitty have blood in the urine?
Does your kitty lick his genital area a lot?
Is your kitty’s urine more pungent than normal?
Does your kitty fuss with the litter box or repeatedly squat without passing much by way of urine?

Here is an easy five step program to help prevent cat urinary infection:

Fifth, give your cat the best chance to maintain a proper pH level in his bladder. Steps 1-4 help maintain the proper pH, but your cat may just need a little extra boost to get over an infection and improve pH level in his bladder. This is where homeopathic remedies can give him that extra help.

Step 1: Make sure to have your vet check for problematic congenital defects or tumors. These will require surgery to fix,not just medication.

Step 2: Reduce your kitty’s stress. Stress has a proven link with the onset of cat urinary problems. Sometimes though, you can’t remove the stress factor. That’s when you should consider using an herbal remedy to reduce the impact of stress on your cat?

Step 3: Lots of fresh water. Place water bowls all over the house and outside if she is an outdoor cat. If your cat drinks out of the toilet let him indulge. Just make sure to do your job and flush the toilet.

Step 4: It’s kitty exercise time. Help your cat get a good 20 minutes of activity daily. Heavy cats, because they have difficulty cleaning in the genital area, are more likely to have cat urinary tract infections. In addition, take a look at his diet as you may need to supplement his diet with natural minerals or vitamins.

Step 5: Steps one through four help with the maintenance of pH, but your cat may need an extra boost to get through an infection and improve the pH level in her bladder. This is where homeopathic remedies can help.

And what’s your next step? Make sure to put out fresh water bowls and find natural compounds to help prevent cat urinary tract infection in the future. Your feline best friend will appreciate it.

That’s it! I hope you and your cat benefit from these five simple steps to stop the cycle of cystitis in cats. You may also need some help boosting his mineral intake and balancing his bladder’s pH. There are some easy-to-use homeopathic compounds that can be added to his diet today to help with this. Find them at http://Cat-Bladder-Problems.com.

Why Do Cats Star In So Many Funny Home Videos?

For thousands of years going back to the Ancient Egyptians, cats have been put on public display. But the first cat shows in the United States, held in Maine, didn’t appear until between 1860 and 1870. Finally, in 1895, a show clawed its way into New York City, hosted in Madison Square Garden.

Badoop-badoop! Fast-forward to the present: Cat clubs and cat fancy organizations are everywhere, holding local, state and national shows in every part of the country. And no wonder: If you search YouTube, either online or on your TV with your TiVo HD DVR, it’s very clear that you don’t have to be a cat breeder to be easily amused and entertained by the very funny videos featuring endless breeds of cats–from hilarious cat bloopers to just cute cat behaviour. But what’s missing from most of these viral videos are a the cat fanciers themselves, who regularly travel across the country attending cat shows. Talk about a special breed of PEOPLE! Perhaps you’re familiar with the crazy cat lady on some of The Simpsons episodes? I guess they’re not all THAT crazy–are they?

So… I went to Pleasanton, California with a very clear mission: to find out just how crazy people can get about cats–and, while I was there, to learn out how well they know their famous felines of Film and Television with our very first Badoop-Badoop Cat Quiz!

What better place to get a close-up perspective of the cat fancier lifestyle than the Crow Canyon Cat Show! I couldn’t believe all the cats I saw: Siamese cats, known for their legendary voice and captivating blue eyes; Persian cats, with their long flowing coats and open pansy-like faces; Himalayan cats, actually a Persian cat with the color pattern of a Siamese cat (who knew?!); the Egyptian Mau, which were worshiped as deities in ancient Egypt; the remarkably dense and muscular Tonkinese; Burmese cats, often described as “bricks wrapped in silk”; Exotic cats that look like a Persian but have short hair; Siberian cats, which history shows have been around for at least one thousand years; Sphynx cats, which are the most famous of the hairless cats, and probably made most popular in recent years by Doctor Evil from the Austin Powers movies; and Abyssinian cats, one of the oldest known breeds on this planet. One of my favorites was a plump Russian Blue Cat with a plush double coat similar to a beaver–gorgeous!

What a spectacle, these fancy cat shows! Cat toys are everywhere, grooming stations and supplies to style and fluff abound, and the large crates where the cats are displayed are decorated with animal prints, feather boas and more! In preparation for the show, cats are bathed, nails clipped, and ears cleaned. And some cats are more “high-maintenance” than others. A longhaired cat requires much more effort than a shorthaired cat and, if shown on a regular basis, must be bathed weekly and combed twice daily! What divas!

Here are a few grooming tricks I learned while I was there: By fluffing up the hair on top of a cat’s head, you can modify the appearance of large ears; to make a cat’s tail appear shorter, trim the excess hair at the end of the tail; to give the kitty a rounded look, clip the hair around the face; and to make their eyes look rounder, cut the hair over the eyes; finally, to make the cat’s neck look thicker or shorter, just comb out its ruff so that it stands out to frame its face. Do you think our favorite Hollywood stars heed any of this advice?

Even though our breeders didn’t get every answer correct in our Cat Quiz, it’s clear that these folks clearly know and love their cats. I got a particular kick out of the fact that while that the show manager assured me that cat people are not crazy, the club’s treasurer told me that the difference between cat owners and dog owners is that Dogs have “Masters,” and Cats have “Staff.”

Good thing we documented all of the cattiness on video so you can see for yourself: Watch the cat show, learn about famous felines on film & TV, and laugh at some of the funniest cats we found on YouTube.

Smart Cats Use StopTrax!

Necessity IS the mother of invention…
People ask me how I come up with the ideas for things I am working on. With regard for the idea and design for StopTraxTM I must admit that I didn’t really have a choice!. In the spring of 1998 I purchased my first home. Then I got a kitten for my first home. Then I became very, very busy with a consulting assignment. At about the beginning of September things started to calm down and I finally had time to do spring-cleaning. I was shocked and dismayed to find that there was cat litter tracked all over the kitchen and most of the downstairs. I had purchased a number of products that claim to eliminate tracked cat litter. All of the products that I could find barely worked for a day or two before they had to be emptied or cleaned, making them high maintenance and thus useless. Finally in desperation I started to design a device that would solve the problem of tracked cat litter once and for all!

Function follows form…

I knew that I needed to keep the cat from stepping on the litter he had already tracked from the cat litter box. My initial idea was something like a window screen that the cat would walk across. The cat litter would fall through the screen or grid and land in some sort of tray, which would then be periodically emptied (weekly or even monthly). The first prototype was two feet wide and four feet long and about six inches tall. Once I found out this actually worked I figured I would just sell the idea and pay my student loans…

What’s an idea worth?
The easy answer is “as much as you can get for it”. Finding the real value is quite another matter. It depends on a number of different factors, which include production cost, total market volume, expected market penetration and price point. By the way, the list goes on. After some research on the web and getting some pet industry statistics, it occurred to me that this was a project that I wanted to keep. Pre-production samples were designed and ordered. Patents were filed. A name was chosen. Web sites and 800 numbers were acquired. The market was segmented and a market strategy was developed. Packaging was designed. Finally, with mostly everything in place we were ready to visit the pet stores.

Better by design…

Why? Because At KittyMaid our primary concern is not price-point or shelf space in the supermarket. This product was designed to stop tracking cat litter by a cat owner who wanted a low maintenance, easy to use product to virtually eliminate tracked cat litter for good !

Benjamin Bengal is the spokesperson for kittymaid.com and stoptrax.

Siamese Cats In Depth Look

The exotic and somewhat mysterious Siamese cat hails from the country of Thailand.  They had always been a popular breed of cats, some even residing in royal palaces.  Siamese cats, in the past, were trusted to protect royal palaces and monasteries from evil spirits.  These cats were also thought of as bringing good fortune to their owners as well.

During the year of 1884, the very first Siamese cats began to make their way to England, when they were given as gifts to a British general.  After that, they eventually made their way over to America.  Now days, Siamese cats are one of the most recognized of the breed.  Siamese cats are without a doubt the most popular short haired cat and among the top 3 in the entire breed of cats.

Even though there are several different colors to this breed, some questions what makes a cat a true Siamese cat.  These cats have always been known for their bodies which are lighter in color, with darker areas throughout.  The more darker areas found on their bodies are normally around the feet, tail, legs, or face.  They can weight anywhere between 6 – 16 lbs, with bright eyes that are normally slanted – which is another clue that the cat is a true Siamese.

Traditionally, Siamese cats are robust, with round heads and a truly muscular build.  They are well known throughout the world for their color points and unique personalities.  Unlike other breeds, Siamese breeds have a talent for communicating with people.  If you are looking for a cat that is nice and quiet, you wouldn’t want a Siamese cat.  These cats love to play, love to make noise, and they also happen to be the most social breed of cats out there.

Siamese cats demand a lot of attention, because in their minds, they believe that the world revolves around them.  For this very reason, they can tend be quite dependant on their owners.  They love to play, and crave interaction.  If you leave them alone for too long, they won’t like it.  They like to get attention, love to play, and hate to be left by themselves.

Even though Siamese cats are emotionally high maintenance, they don’t need a lot of maintenance They need a minimum amount of grooming, which involves bathing every once in a while, and brushing maybe once or twice a month.  If you like cats with minimal maintenance, Siamese cats are perfect.  Their hair is short to their skin, so a gentle brushing is all you need.  They can get sick however, which is to be expected with any breed of cat.

Siamese cats have a life span that is similar to other breeds, which is normally around 15 – 20 years, sometimes even longer. As long as you feed him on a daily basis and take him to the vet for his regular checkups and shots, he will be around for years and years to come.  Most people who have their Siamese cat for over 10 years, find the cat to be more like a child than a pet.

No matter how you look at it, a Siamese cat is a great pet.  Although the Siamese breed does require a lot of attention, they are excellent pets that you can spend a lot of time with.  They are great for kids as well, simply because kids can spend a lot of time with them.  As long as you give your pet the attention he craves – he will be your life long friend for as long as you have him.
